This is a Moroccan Beni Ourain Berber rug sourced in Marrakech. This rug features an ivory and black merle background with ivory-diamond negative-space patterning, as is typical of these rugs. This rug is handmade and features two sides, one flat-woven side for summer and a shaggy, high-piled side for winter. As is tradition, the they are perfectly imperfect, and each rug is unique, no two are ever exactly alike. There is fringe at both ends of this rug, but in some images the fringe has been flipped back to allow you to see the full body of the patterned area.
This rug measures 9'2" L x 5'10" W, although the width does vary along the rug and is widest at the edges.
Each side of this rug is shown in the images, the shag side (primary image) is the winter side and the flat side is for summer. This rug made with hand-spun wool by the Berber women of the Atlas mountain region. We've also included an image of the rug when it was sourced in Marrakech (last image) in the very shop we discovered it.
