This is a wonderful handmade Baronial Crest Plaque on solid wood, featuring imagery tied to heraldry of the the House of Habsburg-Lorraine, originating from the marriage in 1736 of Francis III, Duke of Lorraine and Bar, and Maria Theresa of Austria, later successively Queen of Bohemia, Queen of Hungary and Archduchess of Austria. The backdrop is that of the double headed eagle, along with heraldry symbols and scroll-work using the trompe l'oeil technique which makes the designs appear to be three-dimensional carvings although in reality, they are flat.
