This is a traditional beaded adornment piece hand-made in Papua New Guinea, crafted with various beads and shells. The lizard-shape belt includes turquoise, black, white and red beads along the body and tail, along with cowry shells on the feet and head. The feat also feature cobalt blue beading and the loop which comprises the "tongue" of the lizard are in yellow. We do not have an exact date for this piece, but do know it was acquired over 25 years ago, so we can guess that it is at least vintage.
We believe this would make a gorgeous wall hanging that reveals the remarkable craftsmanship of the traditional arts of Papua New Guinea.
Measures 43" Long and 12" at its widest (back legs). Bead and shell decoration on fabric backing - fabric appears to be a woven cotton. Just one available.
