This beautifully hand-painted ceramic apothecary jar features blue and red decoration with green and yellow accents on white glazing. The center of the jar reads "Astringens" which is latin for Astringent. The container likely held a powder substance that would have been mixed with a solvent and applied to wounds or other ailments. This piece is not clearly marked, but rather has a simple blue painted shape on the bottom, but the style is very typical Italian.
Measures w9.5"H x 5.75"Dia (at widest). The lid has a small blemish around the top edge where some of the glazing has been worn away. No major chips or cracks present. Glaze has beautiful crazing present.
