This pair of Italian hand-painted screen panels may have once been used as the backdrop for a stage play, opera or other performance, or they may also simply be oversized panels custom made for a large room divider. Either way, we love how the size and style of them creates a bold statement. The pale yellow and earth-tones of the panels create a trompe l'oeil which mimics paneled walls or doors.
Each panel measures 85"H x 36"W and are about 3/4ths of an inch thick. These are a little distressed and have some tears in places, which only adds to their charm. The exact age is unknown, but you can see where hinges once were installed on the panels to create a screen. Minor fading is present as well as some structural issues-- the frames are not perfectly square, so they do have to be worked with to prop them up or lean them.
