This is an antique French Louis Philippe mahogany veneer commode with five drawers and a Belgian marble top. The main body of the chest has three drawers, as well as a narrow drawer at the very bottom (between the legs) and the very top. The bottom drawer does not have pulls and is opened by pulling on the outside edges. The middle three drawers feature brass ring-pull hardware with key-hole escutcheons at center. Some additional features of this beautiful chest of drawers are the divided top drawer (shown) and the unique burled wood veneer. The marble top has a simple bull-nose finish and beautiful white veining in the charcoal-gray tone of the marble.
Measures 50"W x 21"D x 39.5"H. There are some losses to the veneer on the front of the piece (shown), mostly at the edges of drawers or corners. There are no keys included with this piece, but the top drawer and bottom drawer are easily opened by pulling from the edges. Some splits in the sides of the piece (shown) as well as discoloration at the feet. Dovetail construction in the drawers. Lining is present (paper) but not permanent.
