This antique French chest of drawers features a wonderful, distressed black painted finish. The color is almost an espresso or chocolate brown in artificial lighting, and more cool-toned black in natural light. You can see some of the wood finish peeking through the paint. This piece features five drawers in graduated sizing, with the most shallow (top) drawer at 3.5 inches deep and the largest (bottom) drawer at 7.5 inches deep. Plenty of storage, with double handles on each drawer as well as escutcheons at the centre. No key is present, but all five drawers do have their locking hardware. The feet on this piece are all carved, and have a wonderful bulb-shape above tapered bottoms.
Overall measurements are 48"W x 23"D x 41.5"H. The top drawer is 3.5"D; second is 5"D; third is 5.5"D; fourth is 6"D; bottom drawer is 7"D. See images for more details.
Surface wear present in finish throughout. Some gapping at seams in drawer bottoms, but only the thickness of a coin, about 1/16th of an inch to 1/8th of an inch maximum in places. The piece is in stabile and good condition as far as functionality, but there is a distressed appearance to the painted finish, which is intentional. Images have been included to show the finish and wear as well as possible.
