  • Pair of 1950s American Black and Gold Rush Seat Hitchcock Armchairs

  • $395.00

  • This pairing of armchairs is finished in a glossy black lacquer with gold details, with rush seats. The legs, arms and back rails all have turned details, with scroll-shaped armrests that have also been pinstriped in a gilt paint. The decoration is harvest-themed, with a basket of bread and wheat, with grapes at the sides. The rush seats do show some wear and the lacquer is worn at the places where the most contact would occur (arm rests, top rails, legs). They are very lightweight and may be crafted in maple. The origin of this style dates to the 1820s in Baltimore and Philadelphia.

Each chair measures 22" W x 20" D x 34" H; Arm height: 26"; Seat height: 18"; Seat measures 18"W x 15"D. Surface wear is present, as shown in the images. Each chair is sturdy and does not wobble. Seats are comfortable. Price is for the pair.
