This is such a unique find!
This woven basket dates to World War II and was found in Northern France. The canvas top features Red Cross markings (it is unknown whether this is an American Red Cross or International Red Cross piece) and a label which shows a handwritten date that appears to read "08-02-48" as well as stenciling which reads "PASSE PARTOUT" (which means the cargo piece moves freely) as well as "PANIER No. 6" (Basket No. 6). The basket has two leather belt closures as well as a front clasp and loop. Inside is a canvas lining which folds over the cargo within, which is also in great condition. The exterior of this basket also features rope handles and both metal and wood reinforcements to the basket's structure. See images for full details.
