  • Antique French Image of Ethiopian Monk

  • $275.00

  • This antique French image captures an Ethiopian monk from the order of Saint Takla Haymanot, a 13th c. monk who founded a major monastery in his native province of Shewa. He is significant for being the only Ethiopian saint popular both amongst Ethiopians and Europeans. According to Tesfaye Gebre Mariam, Tekle Haymanot "is the only Ethiopian saint celebrated officially in foreign churches such as Rome and Egypt."

Found at a Parisian market, we had the most delightful time pouring through the images available.  Artfully framed, this stunning piece measures 14 x 16 inches.  Also looks beautiful in a lucite stand for tabletop.
