  • Antique Bleached Habsburg Red Stag Antlers on Rococo Plaque with Kaiser & King Hunt Horn

  • $8,750.00

  • An exquisite hunting trophy (one of two like this available) from Emperor Franz Josef's castle at Eckartsau castle in the Southern Austrian Alps, this particular set of antlers once were mounted on the outside of the castle in the interior courtyard on sculpted heads and then later attached to this hand-carved plaque, thus giving a beautiful bleached effect since they had been exposed to the elements. The crown wappen and included hunt horn and sword are all original pieces that once part of Emperor Franz Josef's personal collection. The hunt horn is inscribed "K u K", which is the abbreviated form of the German phrase kaiserlich und königlich, meaning "Kaiser and King" representing the Dual monarchy of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (where Emperor Franz Josef was Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary). Also included is a 19th century hirschfänger (hunt sword) with a hand-carved antler handle with brass acorn detail. The sheath is also decorated with more black forest imagery. See images for full details.

Each plaque is a hand carved replacement plaque with an Italian gilt polychrome finish. The plaque measures 24" x 17" with the overall dimensions being 44" height, 48" width and 26" depth. Please see the listing for the second trophy, and special pricing is available for the pair.

Part of The European Hunt collection by Laurier Blanc, this collection of antique hunting trophies has been examined and appraised by James Supp of Coronado Trading Co., who is best known for his work with the PBS production "Antiques Roadshow." All pieces in this collection have been examined and appraised and come with a Certificate of Authenticity document.
