This is a 19th century chest with a hinged top and one lower drawer. Inside the chest is a large compartment accessed by lifting the hinged lid. The key for both the lid and the lower drawer are present and do work in their respective locks. The hinges are iron and the top opens fully, without locking or stopping in place. The lower drawer works well and features patinated bail pull handles and a decorative escutcheon at center. The legs are slightly curved, with a decorative apron and this piece features iron handles on the sides. The golden-toned wood finish is patinated and shows wear and discoloration in places, particularly the top.
Measures 48" L x 23.25" D x 35.5" H. Surface wear and discoloration is present. Patination is present on the handles and hinges as well as the top of the piece. There are some losses to the feet and a slight gap at the seam of the top of the chest, likely due to shrinkage and expansion in the wood top. See images for details.
