  • 19th C. Belgian Plaster Master Altarpiece of St. Luke the Evangelist on Acrylic

  • $995.00

  • Truly a very special one of a kind piece, this plaster religious altar fragment features the lovely iconic image of the seated St. Luke the Evangelist and includes an acrylic base. Recently discovered in Bruges, Belgium and is the considered the original master for molds where pieces were made for church altars and estates of Royalty and Nobility across Europe in the 1800s.

The factory was forced to close during WWII's Nazi occupation and this is part of a collection of these plaster masters that were later discovered in the attic of the building. (This is where the term masterpiece originated).

    The plaster piece itself measures 18 inches H x 10 inches W x 5 inches D.

    With the base, the total measurements are 19 inches H x 20 inches W x 6 inches D.

The plaster piece simply rests on the base, it is not permanently affixed to the base. Wear and cracks are in this piece due to the significant age of the piece but we do feel that it adds the character of this historic item.

Crafted of plaster, wood and burlap and some pieces include the metal rod for the mold. Crating and very special attention to shipping is given with freight shipment of the piece.
