  • 19th c Fallow Deer Trophy from Emperor Franz Josef of Austria on Gilt Plaque

  • This historical 19th century Habsburg fallow deer trophy is mounted on a hand carved, gold gilt Habsburg double-headed eagle back plaque representing the the Austro-Hungarian Empire (where Emperor Franz Joseph was Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary). Also included is an original, French second empire military gorget which hangs from the antlers. Attached to the gorget is a Veteran's Medal of Honor on a red ribbon. This trophy hung in Eckartsau Castle, a favorite hunting Schloss of the Habsburg family in the Southern Austrian Alps. This trophy represents the last available fallow deer trophy from the collection.

    Dimensions: H 23" x W 35.6" x D 20.5". Plaque measures 17.25"H x 16.5"W. Patination to the gilt is present, along with wear consistent with the age of this piece.

    Part of The European Hunt collection, this collection of antique hunting trophies has been examined and appraised by James Supp of Coronado Trading Co., who is best known for his work with the PBS production "Antiques Roadshow." All pieces in this collection have been examined and appraised and come with a Certificate of Authenticity document.
