  • $3,295.00

  • Discovered during our recent European travels, we instantly fell in love with this pairing of antique kettledrums on iron stands crafted by noted musical instrument maker F. Van Cauwelaert from Belgium during the 19th century. Many of Van Cauwelart's pieces are included in Museum collections around the world including The Met in New York. Crafted from hammered copper with brass details and traditionally had stretched goatskin on the top creating the well known sound employed by percussion musicians for centuries. The ancestor of the modern timpani were drums used by Ottoman Empire military bands brought to Europe in the 15th century. Today’s timpani have come a long way achieving precision pitch and intonation. Companies such as Adams, Clevelander, Dresdner Apparatebau, Goodman, Hardtke, Poschardt, Ringer and Walter Light make up the timpani heard on concert stages around the world today.

Lovely patina on each brass plate feature the wording of the maker "VAN CAUWELAERT BREVETÉ BRUXELLES" on each drum. Period wooden tops to protect the skin offers the optionality of using within the home as spectacularly interesting end tables flanking a large scale sofa or as an interesting and unique tables on their own.
