Discovered during travels that brought us to Northern France, this truly exceptional piece of religious history was once installed in the chapel of a church located in Aillant-Sur-Tholon, France and dates to 1640. Close to Auxerre this church is located in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region in north-central France.
Exquisite hand carved details incorporating images of the Holy Spirit, Jesus, Mary and God the Father with arms and fingers so delicately carved and largely intact. Carved wood swag of fabric lines the top and a crown and cross sits high atop. Some level of restoration has been completed and the back of the plaque features a beautiful distressed blue that is believed to represent the heavens with a view over the Earth below (depicted in the sphere) below the Holy Trinity. Shades of a faded red are also evident within the folds of the fabric swag atop. The bottom of the plaque features a lovely carved floral piece.
Measures: 33" width by 51" in height and a depth of almost 3.5" and would make for a stunning statement piece of religious art and history. Heavy duty D-rings installed on the back for safe hanging.
