This stunning mirror is 19th century French and features a very large, ornate cartouche at the top with plaster swags that reach from the center of the cartouche to the outer edges of the mirror. The carved details include oak leaves, pomegranates, pine cones, acorns and other natural elements woven through textured ribbons of handprinted gilt. Tones of bronze, deep gold and red are present in the gilt which has a mostly satin to matte finish. This mirror can be leaned on top of a piece of furniture or hung on the wall. The images included here show it leaning on top of a large commode.
The mirror measures 61"H x 40"W x 6"D (at top). Small losses here and there, most notably the bottom left corner lost a piece of the frame, but has been painted with gilt to match. Please see all images for details. Both the frame and the mirror have surface wear and some debris present.
