Our latest collection of large vintage French Dame Jeanne glass wine bottles have made their way from Provence and are now available! The oversized nature were once used for fermentation of wine and then covered in straw and wicker to protect the glass for transport. (Also known as demijohn wine bottles). Small quantities are available in either this blue green and also dark green colors (see our other listing within the LAURIER BLANC collection for the dark green color).
A little background story to these gorgeous bottles, In 1347, a glassblower got nervous when visiting Queen Jane of Naples, and Countess of Provence (La Reine Jeanne) came for a tour. He overdid his blowing due to fear and that birthed the giant bottle space with only a tiny neck. Everyone loved it and so he named it after her ‘Dame Jeanne’.
