  • 19th Century French Carved "Pétrin de Boulanger" Bread Dough Proving Chest

  • $1,495.00

  • This is an antique French carved proving chest, which would have been used to prove bread dough (to let it rest and rise between kneading), inside the body of this piece. The top lifts away to reveal the interior kneading trough. You can still see the evidence of use inside the piece. There is exquisite floral carving on one side of the piece as well as decorative trim and carvings in the legs. The piece looks like it could be elm or oak. Please see images for full details.

Measurements with top: 57"L x 26"D x 31"H. With top removed, the base measures 52"L x 22"D x 29"H. Rough edges present, particularly on legs. Wormholes can be seen throughout. Surface wear, as expected, is present on all areas.
